AI Voice
Phone numbers for AI voice agents
Your AI agent is built — now give it a real phone number. Local numbers in 100+ countries, delivered over SIP, connected to any AI platform, with no lock-in. From a carrier that operates the calls, not a reseller.
Caller → PSTN → Temptera → SIP → your agent
Why it matters
An AI agent is only as reachable as its number
Voice agents built on Vapi, Retell, ElevenLabs, OpenAI's Realtime API or LiveKit all need the same thing to actually make and receive calls: a phone number (a DID) and a SIP path to the phone network. Bundled platform numbers are often US-only, or tied to the platform you bought them from.
- Local presence, everywhere — a number that reads as local in each market lifts answer rates.
- No lock-in — the number is yours; move it between platforms or port it out.
- Any platform — connect over standard SIP, not a proprietary integration.
One agent, a local number in every market
How it works
Connect your agent to Temptera over SIP
Point a Temptera SIP trunk at your agent and route a DID to it. Two standard ways to authenticate — pick whichever your platform supports.
IP-allowlist interconnect
We authorise your agent platform or SBC by its IP address — no registration. Ideal for bring-your-own-SIP setups that peer by address.
Registered SIP credentials
Or register a trunk with a username and password. For platforms and softswitches that authenticate by SIP digest.
Inbound & outbound
Your DID brings calls in to the agent; the agent sends calls out over the same trunk, presenting your chosen caller ID. Standard G.711 / G.722 audio.
Connection details and credentials are provisioned privately to your account — never published here.
Works with your stack
Bring your own number to any AI platform
If it speaks SIP, it works with Temptera. A number and trunk you own, plugged into the agent framework you already chose.
Vapi
Register a Temptera trunk as a custom BYO SIP credential and attach your DID — by IP or SIP auth.
Retell AI
Point an elastic SIP trunk at Retell and import your Temptera number for production inbound and outbound.
ElevenLabs
Use generic SIP trunking — digest or IP auth, TLS transport — to connect your existing number without porting.
OpenAI Realtime
OpenAI provides only a SIP endpoint, so you must bring a trunk. Temptera supplies the DID and terminates into it.
LiveKit
Create inbound and outbound SIP trunks into your LiveKit rooms with a Temptera number behind them.
Any SIP platform
Self-hosted agents, FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, 3CX and other softswitches connect the same standard way.
Platform names are referenced for compatibility only. Temptera is independent and not affiliated with these providers.
For developers
Point your trunk here and ship
Get a DID in the country you need, authorise your platform by IP or credentials, and route inbound to your agent — outbound goes back over the same trunk. Standards-based SIP, so there's no proprietary SDK to adopt.
- Local, national, mobile and toll-free DIDs across 100+ countries.
- Inbound origination and outbound termination on one trunk.
- Caller-ID control and standard codecs (G.711 / G.722).
For businesses
An AI receptionist that sounds local
Give your AI answering service or outbound campaign a number your customers recognise — in every market you operate. Keep your existing business number by porting it in, and take it with you if you ever leave.
- Local caller ID that improves pick-up rates.
- Bring your current number in; port it out any time — no lock-in.
- Verification handled per country before a number goes live.
Why Temptera
The numbering layer, done by a real carrier
Global, not US-only
Local numbers in 100+ countries so your agent answers with a local presence in every market it serves.
No lock-in
The number is your asset, not the platform's. Move it between AI stacks, or port it in and out on your terms.
We operate the call
You connect to our network directly and keep control of routing, caller ID and codecs — and we help diagnose the SIP path when a call misbehaves.
See coverage first
Check availability and number types before you commit — no sales gate to browse where your agent can have a presence.
FAQ
Phone numbers for AI agents — answered
Want the detail? Read the full guide: virtual numbers for AI voice agents.
Do AI voice agents need a phone number?
Yes. To make or receive real phone calls, an AI voice agent needs a phone number (a DID) and a SIP connection to the phone network. Temptera provides both — the number and the SIP trunk that carries the call.
Can I use my own number and SIP trunk with Vapi, Retell or ElevenLabs?
Yes. These platforms support bringing your own number or SIP trunk. You point a Temptera SIP trunk at your agent — authorised by IP address or by SIP credentials — and route your DID to it.
Can I get local numbers for my AI agent in other countries?
Yes. Local, national, mobile and toll-free numbers are available across 100+ countries, so your agent presents a local caller ID in each market instead of a single foreign number.
Can I port my existing number onto my AI agent, and take it back out?
Yes, where the number is portable. There is no lock-in: the number stays yours and can be ported in or out. We confirm portability before anything is scheduled.
Does it handle both inbound and outbound calls?
Yes. Your DID originates inbound calls into your agent, and your agent terminates outbound calls over the same trunk, presenting your chosen caller ID.
Which AI platforms does it work with?
Any platform that speaks SIP — including Vapi, Retell, ElevenLabs, OpenAI's Realtime API and LiveKit — plus any SIP-capable PBX or softswitch.
