Buy local, national, toll-free and mobile virtual numbers — DID (Direct Inward Dialing) — in 100+ countries. Give your global business a local presence, provisioned in seconds and routed straight to your SIP endpoint or PBX.

What is a DID number?

A DID number (Direct Inward Dialing) — also called a virtual number or virtual phone number — is a cloud phone number that routes inbound calls straight to your SIP endpoint or PBX over the internet, with no physical phone line required. It lets you publish a local phone number in a country where you have no office and answer those calls anywhere in the world.

With Temptera you can buy local, national, toll-free and mobile virtual numbers in 100+ countries, provision them in seconds, and route them to FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, 3CX, FreePBX, or any SIP-capable system — on transparent, pay-as-you-go pricing with no lock-ins. Whether you need one local presence number or a bulk range of international DIDs for a contact centre, the same self-service dashboard covers it.

FAQ

DID & virtual number questions

The essentials on buying and running DID / virtual phone numbers with Temptera.

What is a DID number?

A DID (Direct Inward Dialing) number is a virtual phone number that routes inbound calls directly to your SIP endpoint or PBX over the internet — no physical phone line required. It lets you receive calls on a local, national, toll-free, or mobile number in a country where you have no physical office.

What is the difference between a DID number and a virtual number?

The terms are used interchangeably. DID (Direct Inward Dialing) is the telecom term; "virtual number" is the plain-language name. Both describe a phone number that exists in the cloud and forwards inbound calls to your chosen SIP or PSTN destination.

Can I get a local phone number in another country?

Yes. Temptera offers local (geographic) virtual numbers in 100+ countries so your business reads as local to customers there, while calls are routed to your existing infrastructure anywhere in the world.

What types of DID numbers can I buy?

Local (geographic), national (non-geographic), toll-free, and mobile-range numbers, depending on the country. Availability by type is shown in the live coverage matrix.

How much do DID numbers cost?

Local DID numbers start from $1.50 per number per month and national DIDs from $2.00, with toll-free numbers from $3.00/mo plus per-minute usage. Pricing is consumption-based with no monthly base fees or lock-ins — see pricing.

How quickly are DID numbers activated?

Numbers are provisioned within seconds of purchase and are immediately ready to receive calls once you configure routing to your SIP URI, IP whitelist, or PSTN forward.

Do DID numbers work with my PBX?

Yes. Temptera DID numbers work with any SIP-capable endpoint, including FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, 3CX, FreePBX, and standard softphones, with optional failover destinations for redundancy.
